What we bring to a site

  1. A large cut and fill operation with a machine working the face

    Bulk earthworks

    Cut and fill for house sites, subdivisions and commercial pads. Levels shot, volumes measured, and a set-out you can build off.

    Drainage and stormwater

    Stormwater, wastewater and soakage. Bedded, inspected and signed off before the trench closes.

    Retaining walls

    Timber, block and crib to two and a half metres. Engineered where it has to be, and consented before we start.

    Driveways and hardfill

    Metal, AP40 and sealed. Laid and compacted in layers so it is still flat in ten years.

    Clearing and demolition

    Trees, scrub, old sheds and slabs. Cleared, sorted and carted, with the clean fill kept back if you want it.

    Roading, services trenching and lot preparation, worked to the engineer's drawings and the council's programme.

Eleven owned, nine on wages

There are eleven machines in the Te Rapa yard now, from a one and a half tonne up to a twenty-two, and every one of them is owned rather than hired. A contractor hiring plant has to book it, and a booking is a date somebody else controls. Ours is a phone call to the yard.

The operators are ours too. Nine of them, the shortest-serving four years. They hold their own tickets, they do their own daily checks, and they are the ones who ring the engineer when the ground is not what the drawing said it would be.

We quote in writing inside two days, with the cart-away in the number rather than added later. If we get the volumes wrong that is our problem, not a variation.

  1. 01 Hamilton East. A four metre cut between two existing houses, benched and shored, eleven days.
  2. 02 Rototuna. Six hundred metres of stormwater across nine lots, laid to grade and signed off in one visit.
  3. 03 Te Awamutu. Gabion baskets instead of block, because the ground behind them still had to drain.
  4. 04 Whatawhata. Eighty tonnes of rock out of a house site, and most of it went into the wall below it.
  5. 05 Horotiu. Two dozers and a scraper on a commercial pad, twelve thousand cubic metres in three weeks.
